Elaine and The City-Rekindle the Love Affair Part #2

June 9, 2008 by elaineb

The day before leaving, Mike, my rep, called me and told me that he wants to meet me on Friday instead of Saturday. I said, “I don’t care, I am in NYC on Friday anyways so I will be there!” It actually made me happy to feel like I had Saturday all for me.

Friday at 4 AM we all wake up and get the kids to my mom and we make that two and a half hour trek to Plainfield, New Jersey. When we get to our bed and breakfast we’re in a wicked hurry to get on the train which is two blocks away. We have to catch two trains, one to Newark, the other one all the way to Penn station. From Penn Station to Grand Central Station at 12:30. By the time I arrived 10:30 so I had time to walk around and take great pictures!

We got to play up Bryant Park, see Times Square and Empire State building. We stopped by Cafeo, really neat place where you can get healthy food, vegan and Asian food, made very healthy, so if you ever want to go find a place that has healthy food, Cafeo would be the place to go.

After walking all the way to Grand Central Station I ended up at the Oyster Bar and Restaurant, right in front of it, there is a dome shaped hallway. Little did I know that if you go into one of the opposite corners, you can speak into the corner and people can hear you on the opposite end.

Then it was business time. Mike has lived in NYC most of his life and recently moved to Larchmont. Yet, the city hadn`t moved out of him. Friendly and fast talking, you gotta love the quips and quick stories. As we sat at the gorgeous Cafe Centro, at the opposite end of Grand Central Station, in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Park Avenue, we were served food fit for royalty. I finally felt I was in the right side of the ropes. I have arrived.

I finally remembered what made fall in love with NYC. We all hear the stories of rude people ( I didn`t encounter a single one), feeling unsafe (There were more police there than if Manhattan were a Dunkin Donuts) and the wicked hurry ( well we were all in a hurry). It`s about its architecture, culture, the food and ambiance that makes NYC so irresistible.

Little did I know, the best had yet to come…
